Engineering & Environmental Review for AI-Assisted Work
AI can make research, analysis, drafting, and comparison faster. It can help a facility team assemble records, a developer screen alternatives, or a project team identify questions earlier. The important decision still depends on input quality, site conditions, applicable requirements, and judgment of the personnel responsible for the work.
Footprint helps owners, industrial facilities, developers, and technical partners use these tools while maintaining that decision basis. We review material assumptions and outputs, identify what needs verification, and help connect the findings to engineering, permitting, environmental compliance, procurement, and operational workflows. The work is scoped to the client’s project and decision; AI use is treated as output from any other software or tool not as proof that an answer is correct.
Engineering and project development
Early concepts can look complete before the feedstock, process, utility, site, cost, and schedule assumptions have been tested. Footprint reviews models or concepts against available evidence, basis of design, and known assumptions to identify the studies or technical input needed before advancing stages in FEL, pre-FEED, FEED, vendor selection, or a capital decision.
Where a project requires engineering design, the responsible professionals and their scope are defined for review and approval. Review of third-party, software-based, or AI-generated data is similar in that engineering review is required to ensure proper assumptions, interpretation, application, and output is provided while taking responsibility for the deliverable.
Permitting and environmental compliance
AI-assisted tools may speed the organization of permits, regulations, monitoring records, and draft reports. Facility-specific applicability, source data, calculations, operating conditions, and agency requirements still need qualified review. Footprint can help EHS teams evaluate a permitting or compliance question, check the support for a proposed conclusion, identify gaps, and prepare a defensible path for review and corrective action. This can include periodic technical review of an in-house reporting workflow, review of unusual results or facility changes, pre-submittal quality checks, and independent audits. The facility's authorized signers retain their regulatory responsibilities; the applicable permit and program determine the submission requirements.
Industrial data and decision workflows
More measurements do not automatically produce better decisions. A useful workflow starts with what the team needs to decide and works back to the records, sensors, sampling, laboratory results, and quality controls needed to support it. Footprint can help evaluate data fitness, define a measurement and response basis, and coordinate qualified instrumentation, laboratory, controls, and OT partners for implementation.
Environmental Compliance & Auditing | PFAS
For PFAS, our role is evaluation of potential sampling and testing protocols and related technical questions, with qualified specialists engaged where needed. Footprint can also support evaluation and design of separation and destruction alternatives
.
Technical contracting and delivery support
As teams use AI to compare equipment, draft scopes, and review proposals; owner-side technical judgment remains important. Footprint can help define performance requirements, review vendor assumptions and exceptions, compare technical proposals, and track interfaces among owner, engineer, technology vendor, and EPC contractor. Contract terms and legal risk allocation belong with the client and its counsel; Footprint's role is technical scope, evidence, and delivery coordination.
Confidentiality, data security, and limits
Project files may contain sensitive process, commercial, environmental, or security information. Before using an AI-enabled service, we discuss the intended use, data that may be shared, approved tools and users, and required review and retention practices. If a client does not authorize a tool or a data use, the work can be performed through conventional methods or within an approved environment. We do not treat a model output as a source of record or assume a tool provider's settings satisfy a client's requirements. Our review records the important sources, assumptions, checks, limitations, and responsible parties. Footprint provides support for work requiring a licensed professional.
